Ranbir kicks the smoking for Deepika

Ranbir Kapoor has decided to give up smoking as a b'day gift to girlfriend Deepika. Deepika Padukone couldn't have had a better beginning to 2009 and her birthday yesterday. A source close to Deepika says, "Deepika didn't like Ranbir's smoking habit. As an advance birthday gift, he promised her that he would give up smoking for her.

From January 1 this year, after being a smoker for years, Ranbir has completely quit smoking. Lots of people tried to make him quit but they didn't succeed. Now he has given it up for Deepika." The actress is proud of the fact that the Kapoor lad has not lighted up in the last five days."
The source continues, "The best thing is that she never nagged him about smoking. She accepted him the way he was but Ranbir realised that she didn't like his habit, as she was always uncomfortable when he smoked around her. So he made a resolution to quit. It's a big decision for him and even his mom (Neetu Kapoor) doesn't know that her son has kicked the butt."

When quizzed about being together Deepika says, "I don't like talking about my personal life. All I will say is that Ranbir keeps me very happy and secure." Deepika had a quiet birthday with her parents yesterday. She went to Siddhivinayak Temple followed by a quiet dinner with boyfriend Ranbir in the evening.

"My parents and sister was with me last week during Christmas and New Year's but my sister had to attend a tournament
, so she flew off on Saturday. I never like celebrating my birthdays much. But I do make it a point to go to Siddhivinayak. It's been a great year for me and 2009 looks even more promising.

She adds, "It's been a wonderful birthday this year. I couldn't have asked for two better gifts. Also I am leaving for the premieres of Chandni Chowk To China all over the world. Nikhil Advani has taken the film to a whole new level. The most exciting thing is that the film will be premiered at the Warner Brothers Village in Los Angeles."

Happy Birthday Deepika Padukone-We love you.

Deepika Padukone celebrates her 23rd birthday today. Her only wish is to spend it with beau Ranbir Kapoor and his family. “He was slightly unwell with a bit of fever. But I am sure he will be okay for my birthday,” she says, laughing.

Deepika says the last year has been her most fulfilling year, personally and professionally. “To think last year at this time I was shooting for Bachna Ae Haseeno with Ranbir…time flies so fast,” she says, with a smile. It was on the sets of this film that love blossomed for the inseparable love birds.

This year too Deepika has a lot to look forward to. “In two week’s time my film with Akshay Kumar, Chandni Chowk to China, releases and I am most excited about it,” she says. “I am truly lucky to have managed to get a double role yet again in this film!”
Also, there is Shah Rukh Khan’s Billu Barber, where she has done a cameo for free. “I don’t know why such a big issue is being made of me doing it for free. The fact is I would do anything for SRK free. Even personally if he needs any help from me at any point of time, I will be there to extend it to him without asking a single question. I owe that much to him. How can I ever forget that he gave me the most rocking debut! SRK is special,” she says.

When asked if SRK had offered her money, Deepika states, “That’s something too personal to discuss. I consider Gauri and the Red Chillies team as personal friends.”
Deepika says she still has a lot to achieve, especially when compared with the seniors in the industry. “Who am I to even compare my achievements with other seniors in the field? I have so much more to do.”

Deepika sells gadgets in Chandni Chok To China

One of the first big releases of the New Year is the Akshay Kumar- Deepika Padukone starrer Chandni Chowk To China which opens across cinema halls on Jan 16.

The film, directed by Nikhil Advani, is Bollywood's first Kung-Fu comedy with some mind blowing action scenes shot at some hitherto unseen locales. While Akshay plays a chef (in Delhi's Chandni Chowk area) whose destiny brings him to China, Deepika Padukone would be seen in a double role once again after Om Shanti Om.

While one of her characters is called Sakhi, she is also known as Miss TSM (Tele Shoppers Media) in the film. Deepika's character in the film is the brand ambassador for Tele Shoppers Media located at 123, Quiuha Tower, 45 Xianxia Road, Shanghai. It's no wonder then that she is popularly referred to as Miss TSM (Tele Shoppers Media) in the film.

Deepika would be seen endorsing many different TSM products and gadgets in the film. Some of these gadgets are funky and created for the film out of crazy ideas. Deepika is seen sporting what looks like a beautifully decorated hearing aid in this pic. We spoke to producer Rohan Sippy on what this gadget is supposed to be? "Deepika's character of Miss TSM is seen using and promoting various funky gadgets. What she is wearing is a Multi Language Translator (MLT). Whenever anyone speaks in Chinese or for that matter any language, the device automatically translates it in your preferred language."

Deepika would also be seen posing with a red coloured umbrella. "The umbrella which Deepika uses in the film is a kind of a multi-functional device. It can become a weapon or a safety shield as and when you want it to," says Rohan
