Deepika replaces Katrina as Akki's favourite

"There was someone endorsing it before me and someone will step in after me…" That was the bold Katrina Kaif responding to questions about her replacing Aishwarya Rai as the brand ambassador for Nakshatra Jewellery.

As it seems, Katrina does indeed have some tough competition. Deepika Padukone, widely considered as the 'next big thing' is slowly but steadily working towards getting the 'next' out of the much-abused phrase.

Mid Day reports that the OSO star has just replaced Katrina Kaif as Akshay Kumar's favourite heroine.

Though the paper does not quote any source, the report suggests that the Khiladi Kumar is keen on moving beyond Katrina Kaif.

"AK believes in changing his leading ladies after a point. Even though the Akki-Katrina jodi is the hottest right nowm the actor is thinking ahead and is replacing her with a younger, fresher face like Deepika Padukone," the paper reads.

It seems after Chandni Chowk to China, the two stars will also act together in Sajid Khan's next House Full. What's more, apparently Akki is also in talks for another big banner film where he'd like to star opposite Deepika and not Katrina.

Akshay, Deepika walk the red carpet in London

Indian film stars are the latest hot steppers at the red carpets around the world. A day after Anil Kapoor and AR Rahman won accolades for Slumdog Millionaire at the Golden Globe Awards, the cast of Chandni Chowk to China were strutting their stuff in London's Leicester Square.

And a special appearance by Amitabh Bachchan added glamour to the fourth overseas premiere of the film, which releases on January 16.

“I have really enjoyed myself. I have spent an hour with my fans, signing autographs. I am here because of my fans,” Akshay said.

While actor Roger Yuan who plays Chiang in the film said, “It was a brilliant experience. I loved working with Akshay, Nikhil and Deepika.”

For leading lady, Deepika Padukone, who was dressed in a Tarun Tahiliani ensemble, the premiere at Leicester Square was extra special. Her first film Om Shanti Om was also premiered at the same theatre back in 2007.

“This theatre is lucky. London is lucky! Hopefully it will be once again,” an excited Deepika said.

Chandni Chowk to China marks Warner Brothers’ first foray into Hindi films. And it seems that even before the film's release, there is talk about a sequel.

Director Nikhil Advani said, “It is upto Warner Bros. Am sure they would like us to make a sequel. We need to work out the logistics.”

The film is breaking records even before its release. It is all set to have the biggest opening in the US and Canada for a Hindi film – the film will be playing on over 125 screens. Even in the UK, it will open in 80 theatres, setting a new record for a Bollywood film.
