The mantle of Grand Marshal for the India Day Parade in New York has fallen on the beautiful Deepika Padukone this Independence Day. More than the honour, what’s exciting for the one-film-old actress is the fact that 30 years ago when this tradition was started in NY by the Federation of Indian Associations, the first Grand Marshal was Bollywood’s original showman – Raj Kapoor. “I’m privileged to be part of a ceremony that was started with Ranbir’s grandfather,” said Deepika, the most promising future bahu of the Kapoor khandaan. The Parade will be held on August 16 and 17, but Deepika will be alone in New York. The reason being Ranbir, who is otherwise inseparable from her, will be busy with the release of their new film in India.
