Bangkok, Thailand, is still recovering from the extravaganza that is the IIFA (International Indian Film Awards), which concluded on Sunday.
The Bachchans — including Amitabh, Jaya, Abhishek and Aishwarya — charmed audiences and fans alike. Abhishek and Ash, however, did not bag an award for Guru, which was nominated in the Best Film, Best Actor and Best categories, among others.
Ironically, Shah Rukh Khan, whose films won most of the awards — nine for Chak De! India including best actor and best film, and five for Om Shanti Om — was not present at the show
Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, who came in arm-in-arm, took home the best debutant awards for Sawaariya and Om Shanti Om, respectively..
Kareena Kapoor bagged the Best Actress award for her role in Jab We Met. Meanwhile, director Imtiaz Ali lost the Best Director award to Chak De’s Shimit Amin, and had to be content with the award for best dialogue writer.
Akshay Kumar, who was recently conferred with an honorary doctorate, received a special achievement award.
‘I was just a young man when my adventure began here. I was naive, restless and eager to please. This city embraced me with such love and kindness,’ The Times of India quoted the star as saying in his acceptance speech.
While Kareena commanded the stage, beau Saif Ali Khan was spotted looking a little worse for wear.
The supporting awards went to Irrfan Khan and Konkona Sen Sharma for their work in Life In A… Metro.
